The rolling hills, golden sunsets, and quiet beauty made it everything we hoped for — and more.

We booked our stay at Borga Solario in San Fattucchio, and I’m happy to say the property was exactly as pictured — maybe a little more “lived in.” Every detail felt thoughtful and true to the photos. From the cozy stone farmhouse to those sweeping countryside views — Tuscany really is unforgettable. I especially loved the Italian-style farmhouse kitchen — rustic, warm, and perfect for slow mornings with espresso and croissants.
A few practical notes about the property. There’s a stovetop but no oven, though the kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need for simple Tuscan meals. The beds were decent. The property doesn’t allow children under 12 — luckily our daughter just made the cutoff. It’s ideal for couples or friends looking for a peaceful retreat. There’s also a washing machine available for a small fee, and — true to Italian style — drying is done the traditional way: with a trusty drying rack.
Exploring San Fatuccio and Its Surroundings
San Fatuccio sits perfectly between Tuscany and Umbria, giving you access to both regions. One day you can wander through vineyards and olive groves, the next explore medieval hill towns or visit nearby Lake Trasimeno. Winding country roads lead to local markets, tiny piazzas, and family-run trattorias. It’s the perfect base for exploring central Italy.
What Made San Fatuccio Special?
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like family. Our host was warm, knowledgeable, and full of stories about the land and the olive trees that surround the property. We didn’t get to taste the olive oil this time. The orchards are located offsite, and it wasn’t olive season yet. Still, we loved learning about the farm’s production and traditions.
We were invited to snip herbs from the garden to use in our cooking — rosemary, sage, basil — the kind of small, lovely touch that made our stay unforgettable.
Our tween absolutely loved exploring the property in search of the resident cats. Her favorites were “the grey one” and “the orange one.” They appeared at random times of day, sometimes meowing outside our door for attention and snuggles. She spent hours wandering the grounds, hoping to spot one of her furry friends lounging in the sun or padding through the olive trees.
We even did some schoolwork from the pool house, bathed in sunshine with a view of the sparkling pool and the hills beyond. It was peaceful, cozy, and the kind of environment that makes you slow down and really breathe.
And then there was the night sky.
On October 13, I witnessed a meteorite streak across the Tuscan sky — a moment made possible by the lack of light pollution out here in the countryside. It was one of those rare, breathtaking flashes you never forget. I didn’t have my camera ready, but trust me when I say I was absolutely amazed.

We came for the views and left with full hearts (and possibly a few cat friends). San Fatuccio was peaceful, beautiful, and perfectly located for exploring both Tuscany and Umbria. Between the sunrises, the olive groves, the meteorite sighting, and the warmth of our hosts, it was one of the most special places we’ve ever stayed. It was hard to leave.
