Everything You Need to Know About the Hoi An Memories Show

Hoi An Memories Show

If you’re spending any time in Hoi An, there’s one experience that keeps coming up over and over again — the Hoi An Memories Show. And after going ourselves, we get it.

The show itself? An absolute MUST-SEE.
Everything else… well, we’ll get into that.

What Is the Hoi An Memories Show?

Hoi An Memories

Set on Hoi An Memories Land, this is not your average performance. The outdoor stage is 25,000 square meters (about 6.18 acres) — and you feel every bit of that scale the second you walk in.

We’re talking:

  • A 1 km long stage
  • Over 500 performers
  • Massive set pieces, lighting, costumes, and choreography

It’s big. Like… “how is this even happening in front of me?” big.

What the Show Is About

Hoi An Memories

The Hoi An Memories Show tells the story of Hoi An’s evolution over 400 years — from a quiet fishing village to a bustling international trading port.

Through a series of visually stunning scenes, the show brings to life:

  • Early settlers and village life
  • The rise of trade with merchants from across the world
  • Cultural blending (you’ll see Japanese, Chinese, and Vietnamese influences woven throughout)
  • Love stories and human connection across time
  • The lantern-lit beauty that Hoi An is now famous for

There’s minimal dialogue — it’s all told through music, dance, lighting, and movement — which makes it incredibly immersive (and easy to follow regardless of language).

The set? Breathtaking.
The choreography? Seamless.
The overall experience? Honestly kind of magical.

Ticket Pricing (What You Need to Know)

Hoi An Memories

Ticket prices vary depending on seating tier, but here’s the general breakdown:

  • Eco Class (lowest tier) – budget-friendly $600,000 VND ($32 CDN or $23 USD)
  • High Class (middle tier) – better central views $750,000 ($40 CDN or $29 USD
  • VIP Class (highest tier) – best views, covered seating + perks $1,200,000 VND ($63 CDN or $46 USD)

We chose the middle tier (High Class) and were completely happy with it.
The view was great, and we didn’t feel like we were missing out.

VIP perks include:

  • Covered seating (important 👀)
  • Complimentary water and snacks

Note that there are also tickets available that include the buffet or other activities

Important: Seating Is First Come, First Serve

Even though you buy tickets in advance, seating is NOT assigned.

  • People start lining up around 7:00 PM
  • Gates open before the 8:00 PM showtime
  • We went in around 7:30 PM and still got great seats in the middle section

👉 If you want prime seats, go earlier.
👉 If you’re okay with “still great,” 7:30 worked perfectly for us.

Rain or Shine (And Yes, That Matters)

This show goes on rain or shine.

  • If you’re not in VIP, you will get wet if it rains
  • Ponchos are your friend
  • Or… upgrade to VIP if you’re worried

We lucked out with perfect weather — but it’s definitely something to think about.

Memories Island: What to Expect Before the Show

Hoi An Memories

The show takes place on Memories Island, and it’s more than just a theatre.

There are:

  • Shops
  • Restaurants
  • A Vietnamese buffet
  • Hot pot restaurant
  • Japanese restaurant
  • Cafes and drink spots
  • Even villas you can stay in

You’ll also find pre-show performances starting earlier in the evening.

Should You Go Early?

Short answer: Depends on your vibe.

The official recommendation is to arrive around 5:00 PM to explore and watch pre-show performances.

We did that.

And honestly?

We had… a lot of idle time.

The pre-show performances were okay — if you enjoy that kind of thing, you might like arriving early. But for us, it didn’t add much to the experience.

If we did it again:
👉 We’d arrive around 7:00 PM
👉 Grab a drink
👉 Line up for seats
👉 Skip the rest

Also worth noting:
Food options are available, but they’re overpriced for what you get — so we’d recommend eating beforehand (which we did).

The Syps Family Hoi An Memories Show Tip Box
🎭 Pre purchase your ticket, we would recommend the Hi seats (middle tier)
🎭 Arrive around 7:00 PM (not 5 PM unless you love pre-shows)
🎭 Line up by 7:00–7:30 PM for better seats
🎭 Seating is first come, first serve — don’t assume your ticket saves a spot
🎭 Eat before you go — food on-site is pricey
🎭 Bring a poncho if you’re not in VIP (rain = you will get soaked)
🎭 Skip the pressure to do everything — the main show is the highlight

Syps Survival Summary

Did we survive arriving way too early and having nothing to do?
👉 Technically yes… but barely.

We filled the time with a drink, wandered a bit, watched a couple of performances… and then checked the time about 47 times.

The Hoi An Memories Show is 100% worth it — don’t skip it.

But here’s the honest take:

  • The show = incredible, unforgettable, must-see
  • The lead-up experience = skippable

If you time it right, this can easily be one of the highlights of your trip to Hoi An.

If you don’t… you might just be sitting around wondering why you got there so early.

Either way — once that show starts, none of it matters anymore.
